Chapter 3 - War in Heaven – The Angel Rebellion

Revelation 12:7-8
And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.

There are several points that can be learned form this passage:

1)      There are two sides fought by angels in a heavenly war, i.e.  angels faithful to God and angels in rebellion against God.

2)      The angels in rebellion lost their place in heaven. Which, not being in heaven, they are someplace else now.

3)      This should lead us to ask the question, if they are no longer in heaven and have been cast out, are they here on earth, even if only seen on occasion? Another way to ask this question is, if they are not in heaven, then where are they? And have we encountered them here on earth? And if we have, they being in rebellion to God, how might they represent themselves to us? Would they say, “Hi, Mr. Human. I am an angel cast out from heaven because I rebelled against God. I am evil and you should not listen to me.”?

No, I don’t think so.

Luke 10:18
”He replied, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’”

When God cast Satan from heaven, the devil did not float to the ground softly. He was thrown down like a professional wrestler’s body-slam. It was the ultimate “smack-down”!

Point: God is so much more powerful than Satan. And though it may be hard at times to realize this, God is still in control over His creation.

What is Man?

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

–Genesis 1:27

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”

–1John 3:2

“However, as it is written:
   "No eye has seen,
      no ear has heard,
   no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him”

–1Corinthians 2:9

“So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body…Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." –1Corinthians 15:42-44, 51-54

WAYS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT THE BIBLE MAY BE CALLING THE “KINGDOM OF THE AIR”

Flatman in Flatland

The above illustration represents how we might better grasp the temporary intersection of multiple dimensions. “Flatman” lives in “Flatland” – a two dimensional plane. His whole world is flat, flat, flat! He cannot comprehend a third dimension because he has a two dimensional brain! A third dimension is nothing more than a vague idea or concept that he has a hard time grasping with his two-dimensional brain. One day, a ball (a sphere) comes by and observes Flatman. Mr. Ball lives in three dimensions though. Mr. Ball decides he is going to take a closer look at Flatman and proceeds to pass into his two-dimensional plane. From Flatman’s perspective, he at first sees nothing. Then suddenly, without warning, he notices something peculiar. He notices a single point appear before his very eyes. As he stares in bewilderment, the point transforms itself and turns into a circle. Flatman is perplexed. The circle continues to grow as Mr. Ball continues to pass into Flatman’s plane. Flatman sees the circle grow larger still until all of a sudden, as Mr. Ball is now more than half way passing through, the circle now starts to become smaller. The circle shrinks more, smaller and smaller, until it is a single dot again, and then as quick as it first appeared, blip! It’s gone.

Flatman is perplexed and disturbed! He does not know what he has just seen. His friends will think he is crazy if he tells them. Yet, he cannot stop wondering what it was he knows he just saw. From all his experiences, his mind tells him it could not have possibly been real. Flatman becomes frustrated and wishes he never saw it!

Sugar and Salt

During my freshman year in high school, we did an experiment in Science class. The teacher had us take two glass beakers. We were to fill both half way with water and note the level. Then into one we were to pour a cup of sand. Into the other we were to pour a cup of sugar. Then we were to stir both equally. Next, we were to observe the water level and record it. The water level in the beaker with sand rose. The water level in the beaker with sugar did not. We were to answer the question—why?

And the answer, of course, is that the sugar dissolves into the water. Ok, what exactly happens when something “dissolves”? Why didn’t the water level rise? Where did the sugar go? And that answer is that the sugar molecules “break apart” and the smaller sugar molecules slip between the larger water molecules. It is very similar to a large room filled with beach balls. We are able to add a large amount of tennis balls to the larger beach balls without making the level of the beach balls rise--the tennis balls will settle into the spaces between the larger beach balls. Settled in the available space between the beach balls, the level of the beach balls in the room will not rise until a certain “saturation point” is attained.

What if angels had bodies that could “dissolve”, “disperse”, or “de-crystalize” (for lack of better terms) between the molecules of our physical world, similar to the way sugar can dissolve into water, yet still be there? What if they could control this ability at will?

I wonder if that is why crystals play such a large influence in the New Age Movement. Are they maybe toying with us?

Chameleons and octopus can change their surface appearance at will. What if a superior life form could do something similar to change its appearance at will, but in a way that was, well--superior?

If angels do not have this ability, they would at least apparently, have the ability to control, in our minds, our perceptions of them. In Matthew 1:20-24 an angel appears to Joseph in his dream.

In 2Kings 6:17 Elisha prays that God will open the eyes of his servant. God does so, and Elisha’s servant then is able to see all the angels that surround them.

In Numbers 22:23-35 a donkey is able to see an angel while Balaam cannot—at least not until the angel intentionally reveals himself to Balaam. Examples such as these seem to suggest that angels can control what we see, or the perceptions of our minds, at their will.

Whatever the case may be, it is apparent that a human is no match for an angel—physically or psychologically. They are vastly more powerful than us.

Angels, Spirits, and Devils

Before we delve into this complicated subject, we must first establish some basic truths. When we discuss angels, most people already have preconceptions of what an angel is, and these preconceptions often drown out what the Bible actually tells us about these beings.

So in order to better understand angels and their nature and purpose, we shall examine what the Bible tells us about them—and we can learn much, if we will only listen.

Nature and Purpose of Angels:

Hebrews 1:14
Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

Nature: Angels are spirits

Purpose: to serve those who will inherit eternal life

Now, these are the faithful angels. And if it is a faithful angel’s purpose to serve those who will inherit eternal salvation, then a rebellious angel would do just the opposite. A rebellious angel would lead people away from eternal salvation—away from Jesus Christ, and away from obedience to the Scriptures of the Holy Bible and the salvation plan revealed therein.

Hebrews 1:14 also leads us to ask another question. If angels are spirits, and they are portrayed in scripture as, at times, having a mortal fleshly body indistinguishable from other humans, what exactly are spirits? This is one of those questions when answered leads to more questions. If an angel is a spirit, then just what is a spirit?

Perhaps this answer depends on our perspective. There are those, such as atheists, who do not believe we, as humans, have a soul. But the Bible tells us just the opposite. The Bible tells us we are souls, and our souls have bodies. So if we are souls and we have a body, then might angels be similar in nature? And being far more powerful than us, might they also posses control over their state, or at least control over how we perceive them? The Bible does seem to indicate they have this ability.

Angels can appear in our dreams-- they can “get into our heads”:

Matthew 1:20

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."

Angels can appear as perfectly normal human beings:

Genesis 19:1-5

The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. "My lords," he said, "please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning."

"No," they answered, "we will spend the night in the square." But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

Angels can appear as beings of white light:

Matthew 28:1-4

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

Angels can be seen by animals while being invisible to humans:

Numbers 22:21-35

Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab. But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat her to get her back on the road.

Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between two vineyards, with walls on both sides. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam's foot against it. So he beat her again. Then the angel of the LORD moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left. When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat her with his staff. Then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?"

Balaam answered the donkey, "You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now."

The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?"
      "No," he said.

Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.

The angel of the LORD asked him, "Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me. The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If she had not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have spared her."

Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned. I did not realize you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I will go back."

The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but speak only what I tell you." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

Angels can be present but invisible to us:

2Kings 6:15-17

When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" the servant asked.

"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."

And Elisha prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes so he may see." Then the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Angels can appear in flames:

Exodus 1:1-2

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.

Angels engage in a battle:

Joshua 5:13-14

Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?" "Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?"

Angels can appear in a form far beyond human comprehension:

Ezekiel 1

In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.

On the fifth of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin-  the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi,  by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians.  There the hand of the LORD was upon him.

I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal,  and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was that of a man, but each of them had four faces and four wings.  Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze.  Under their wings on their four sides they had the hands of a man. All four of them had faces and wings,  and their wings touched one another. Each one went straight ahead; they did not turn as they moved.

Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle.  Such were their faces. Their wings were spread out upward; each had two wings, one touching the wing of another creature on either side, and two wings covering its body.  Each one went straight ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went.  The appearance of the living creatures was like burning coals of fire or like torches. Fire moved back and forth among the creatures; it was bright, and lightning flashed out of it.  The creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightning.

As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces.  This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel.  As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not turn about as the creatures went.  Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around.

When the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose.  Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.  When the creatures moved, they also moved; when the creatures stood still, they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was what looked like an expanse, sparkling like ice, and awesome.  Under the expanse their wings were stretched out one toward the other, and each had two wings covering its body.  When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings, like the roar of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty,  like the tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings.

Then there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads as they stood with lowered wings.  Above the expanse over their heads was what looked like a throne of sapphire,  and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man.  I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him.  Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him.
This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.”

Conclusion: Angels have the ability to present themselves in different forms so that humans perceive them differently depending upon how the angel wishes to be seen.

Forces of Evil

Now if Satan and his followers are fallen angels (Revelation 12:7-8), might their appearances to mankind be very similar in nature to angelic appearances recorded in the Bible? Would there not be some very striking similarities?

We should keep in mind our battle is not against other human beings, but against the unseen forces of evil:

”For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” - Ephesians 6:12

”in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”

- Ephesians 2:2

Satan roams the earth looking for someone to devour:

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

-1Peter 5:8

Not only do they stalk their prey while they are unaware, but felines often like to toy with their catch before they devour it-- a sick commentary on the mind of the devil.

One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"
Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it." –Job 1:6-7

Observations: From the thousands of reported UFO cases throughout the whole planet it can only be said the “UFO beings” are constantly roaming and searching the earth for people to appear to.

Satan appears as a good angel:

“For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”

- 2 Corinthians 11:13-14

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

-- Galatians 1:6-10

Observations: It is amazing how many false religions have been started because an angel appeared to someone and gave them a message that in turn was the catalyst for a new religion. Supposedly the angel Gabriel appeared to a man named Muhammad, who then inspired the Koran, and the Islamic religion was born. An angel named Moroni appeared to a man named Joseph Smith, who then wrote the Book of Mormon, and the Mormon religion was born.

But the Holy Spirit warned us well in advance, a long time ago, that such tactics would be used by the enemy. In modern times, the tactic was used yet again, but “repackaged” and presented in a more “up to date” format for a more “modern” and “scientific” culture. In an age when beliefs in angels were diminishing and belief in beings from other planets was widespreadingly increasing, a slightly different strategy was called for—although it was nothing new really-- just the same old thing with a new coat of paint. In the 1950’s an “extraterrestrial” appeared to a man named L. Ron Hubbard, who then wrote Dianetics, and the religion of Scientology was born.

In another example of “UFO inspiration”, Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, is said to have had a “vision of being swept into a UFO that took him to a larger mothership” which inspired him to come up with the idea for the “million man march” he led in Washington D.C. in 1995.

What do all of these scenarios have in common? An advanced being appears and presents something to someone who then puts the message into writing and takes it into the world—a message that is other than the gospel which Paul preached. The Bible warns us sternly to reject their message and not believe it--“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!”

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.”

-1Timothy 4:1-2

Remember, Satan was good when he was created by God. He knows how to use “good” in order to deceive and accomplish his means. He will mix in portions of truth to give an element of believability, and to manipulate people and gain what he wants:

Ezekiel 28:12-17

" 'You were the model of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

You were in Eden,
       the garden of God;
       every precious stone adorned you:
       ruby, topaz and emerald,
       chrysolite, onyx and jasper,
       sapphire, turquoise and beryl.
       Your settings and mountings were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.

You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
       for so I ordained you.
       You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.

You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.

Through your widespread trade
       you were filled with violence,
       and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, O guardian cherub,
       from among the fiery stones.

Your heart became proud
       on account of your beauty,
       and you corrupted your wisdom
       because of your splendor.
       So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.

Isaiah 14:12-15

How you have fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, O day-star, son of the morning!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

You said in your heart,
       "I will ascend to heaven;
       I will raise my throne
       above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.

I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."

Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,

To the lowest depths of the Pit.

Satan’s pride made him want to sit on God’s throne and rule in His place. When these “aliens” tell us that they are the ones who created mankind though genetic experiments and that  we should look to them for guidance and answers, they are engaging Satan’s primary modus operandi. The enemy is attempting to sit in God’s place, ascend to His throne, and make themselves like the Most High.

But Christ will ultimately triumph over all. Nothing will stop Him:

“…I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail.” Matthew 16:18

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”

--Philippians 2:9-11

Colossians 1:16

For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

Many biblical commentators explain these terms, thrones, powers, rulers and authorities as including different classes or ranks of angelic beings. At first, it might seem these terms describe earthly human powers, but the very same Greek words for these same terms, rulers and authorities are used in Ephesians 3:10, and they most certainly are describing angelic beings:

Ephesians 3:10

His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,

And this passage tells us that the church is being used and put on display to angels in heaven to glorify God.

When we consider the vastness of God’s physical creation, we see countless variations amongst it. From the stars in the sky having different variations-- but all being stars, to the animal kingdom-- all having variety and different species. Consider any family of animals. Take the Feline family for instance. There are lions, and tigers, and puma, leopards, lynx, cheetahs and the domestic house-cat. They all differ, but they are all felines. They are all cats.

Consider the equines. We have horses, mules, donkeys and ponies. Every family in the animal kingdom has tremendous variation. And this is not even to mention the two sexes. Among the human race there is equally a large variation. There are people of African descent, Asian, Caucasian and Arab, etc. They may look different on the outside, but on the inside they are all the same. Christ died for all people everywhere. All these variations among the human race are all creations in God’s image.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

–Genesis 1:27

Conclusion: If the physical creation we see has such a vast variety to it, why would we be surprised that the unseen realms are any different? Why would we be surprised that there are different types of angels? Indeed, the Bible does describe at least some of these different types of angels. In the Old Testament, there are Cherubim and Seraphim specifically named as two mentioned names for these differing ranks of angels. There may be variations among the angels, but they are all angels. So when considering the fallen angels, or demons, remember, it should be expected to see differences among them. And, as any UFO researcher can tell you, that is exactly what we see among the “aliens”.

Satan can rise up against a whole nation:

“Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.” - 1 Chronicles 21:1

Evil spirits deceive by teaching false doctrine:

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.”

-1 Tim 4:1-2

At times, God allows spirits to deceive:

1Kings 22:22

“For three years there was no war between Aram and Israel. But in the third year Jehoshaphat king of Judah went down to see the king of Israel. The king of Israel had said to his officials, "Don't you know that Ramoth Gilead belongs to us and yet we are doing nothing to retake it from the king of Aram?"

So he asked Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to fight against Ramoth Gilead?"
Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses." But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, "First seek the counsel of the LORD."

So the king of Israel brought together the prophets—about four hundred men—and asked them, "Shall I go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?"
"Go," they answered, "for the Lord will give it into the king's hand."

But Jehoshaphat asked, "Is there not a prophet of the LORD here whom we can inquire of?"

The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah."
"The king should not say that," Jehoshaphat replied.

So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, "Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once."

Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them. Now Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had made iron horns and he declared, "This is what the LORD says: 'With these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.' "

All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. "Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious," they said, "for the LORD will give it into the king's hand."

The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, "Look, as one man the other prophets are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably."

But Micaiah said, "As surely as the LORD lives, I can tell him only what the LORD tells me."

When he arrived, the king asked him, "Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?"
"Attack and be victorious," he answered, "for the LORD will give it into the king's hand."

The king said to him, "How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD ?"

Then Micaiah answered, "I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD said, 'These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.' "

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?"

Micaiah continued, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD : I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left. And the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?'
"One suggested this, and another that. Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, 'I will entice him.'

" 'By what means?' the LORD asked.
" 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,' he said.
" 'You will succeed in enticing him,' said the LORD. 'Go and do it.'

"So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you."

Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. "Which way did the spirit from the LORD go when he went from me to speak to you?" he asked.

Micaiah replied, "You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room."

The king of Israel then ordered, "Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king's son and say, 'This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.' "

Micaiah declared, "If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me." Then he added, "Mark my words, all you people!"

“Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.” - Revelation 16:13-14

What comes out of our mouths? Words. These are lying, deceitful words coming from evil sources. Lies!

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Just because something may seem “spiritual” and powerful-- even by apparent miraculous and astounding signs, does not mean it is from God.

Satan rules the kingdom of the air:

“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”

- Ephesians 2:1-2

When the Bible presents us with the symbolic image of a winged angel, it is not trying to tell us these beings have feathered appendages, rather, maybe it is trying to tell us they have the ability to fly through the atmosphere.

Revelation 12:12

…But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
   He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.
